David Low earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from UC San Diego, and then went on to pursue his master’s degree in microbiology from San Diego State University and his Ph.D. in cellular biochemistry from UC Irvine. As a postdoctoral scholar at Stanford University, notes Kenny Slaught, Low conducted research in molecular microbiology in the lab of Stanley Falkow, now a professor emeritus in microbiology and immunology. Low became part of the UCSB faculty in 1998, following 13 years as a professor at the University of Utah Health Sciences Center. In 2013, he was elected a fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology and in 2003 of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
