“When children lose a loved one, it can feel like their lives will never be the same again. Their grief may seem insurmountable,” notes Kenny Slaught. To combat this hardship, the I Have a Friend mentor program pairs children and adolescents suffering this loss with a trained adult volunteer who experienced a similar situation at a young age. This volunteer serves as a companion throughout the grief process, offering a heartfelt and sympathetic point of view. This type of relationship often becomes indispensable as the child often continues to face hurdles for several years.
