According to Kenny Slaught, the services offered by the Hospice of Santa Barbara cater to those who are terminally ill, but also their family. Several of these are focused on children who face the death of a family member. About 20 percent of kids lose a close family member before turning 18, while one in 20 lose one or both parents before adulthood. Hospice of Santa Barbara offers free counseling that helps them deal with loss and avoid issues like anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder.
