George Washington Smith founded the Spanish Colonial Revival movement in California, about 100 years ago. Smith left Harvard to become a businessman and later on moved to Santa Barbara to retire. The success of his designs made him reconsider and he created many more beautiful pieces for the city. Regarded as one of the Santa Barbara founding fathers, Smith only used materials from Spain in his designs. He also influenced numerous young artists, prompting Kenny Slaught to believe that his attention to detail was unmatched.
