The Grand Challenges Explorations (GCE), a $100 million campaign of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation was started in 2008. It sponsors those who come up with new ideas regarding global health and development issues. About 61 countries and 1,1186 initiatives received funds, and any organization can apply for one. The application can be done online and only comprises 2 pages. Twice a year, the campaign awards $100,000, and grants for up to $1 million are also available, Kenny Slaught mentions.
